I am not ashamed of my love of personalized stuff. Any chance I get, I search racks of magnets, bookmarks and the like in search of my name.
It's hard to forget how excited I was to find a candle with Bumper's real name on it since her name is not super common. For myself, I have owned personalized post-it notes, pencils, magnets, mugs, and t-shirts just to name a few in a long list of personalized belongings.
Honestly, it's the thrill of seeing my name in PRINT, it really is. It makes me feel all special (*blush*). A bit silly for an adult, but the ego boost is always welcome.
Needless to say, when the Parent Bloggers Network asked for reviewers for something personalized, I signed up.
Printakid creates personalized books for children in addition to other personalized products (made right here in Canada - extra nice). I selected a book called The Robets of Sedna for Bumper - I liked the story line and it involved both friends and family:Treacherous aliens kidnap your child's loved ones. These space bandits plan to steal the legendary diamonds from planet Sedna. Your child, the captain of the Alpha-1 spaceship, flies to the rescue! With help from friends, your child stops a robot clone conspiracy and saves the entire galaxy.
All starring my little girl (and me! oh yes, and Dad!).
The ordering system was easy to use and even though I couldn't find hazel for eye colour, I had no problem building Bumper from the personalized choices. Hair, skin tone, names of friends and family were sent off, and I was happy to be getting another personalized item for Bumper (because candles aren't exactly exciting for a child - except for little fire starters, like my childhood neighbour Joel, but I digress).
The book arrived and I really enjoyed reading it to Bumper. At two, she can't read her name but she sure does know what it sounds like.
Hearing the names of her family and friends names really made her chatter. It's easy to read a story when you are part of the characters involved. It's fun to read because afterwards she loves to talk about the familiar characters. I think she will get a kick out of reading it when she's older.
And to boot, I'll admit I was super thrilled to star as Mommy in the book.
